Proper English is my anti-virus
Dear assholes,The plural form of virus is viruses. Virii is not word.
Sincerely,
Chris
This annoys me to no end. People have absolutely no clue. Nobody gives a rat's ass about proper plural forms if it involves more than adding "s" to the end -- except when it comes to virus.
Some words, like "focus" can be plurarlized in their proper form (foci) or the dumbed down version (focuses). That still doesn't make the plural of virus into viri. I hate you all.

Back again
I'm back, yet again. As you may know, I had an issue with a domain squatter. I wanted my domain, illtron.com, they wanted $80. I told them good luck with that. I'm sure it'll be very profitable for them.
At any rate, when I switched over to illtron.net, I had all sorts of issues with old stuff still pointing to illtron.com. We couldn't figure out what the problem was, so we just deleted my entire account and rebuilt it from scratch on the server.
Naturally, I made sure to back up my site before I deleted everything. I took care of this one day during lunch at work. But there was a problem. The problem is that Windows and every program ever written for it is garbage.
CuteFTP, which I'm forced to use at work, decided not to download the contents of entire directories. Therefore, I lost all of my templates and index files. I exported all of my entries before I did any of this, and I still had my images from when I built the site. Everything generated by Movable Type was gone, and I didn't have the slightest clue until I was ready to start reassembling things. You'll probably notice some broken images and links for now, but things are mostly running, even if it is sort of plain.
So what's the holdup?
I would have gotten around to putting things back up sooner, but I was working on the Funk 'n' Gumbo site, which was a priority at the time. It's actually still unfinished. I lost a few things there too when I did my little experiment. I'm actually also halfway through a redesign of that already because the site that's up now was a really sort of a rush job, and I wasn't all that happy with it.
The Funk 'n' Gumbo site has taken a temporary backseat to A Week of Kindness (Warning: that link doesn't work as of Feb. 28). It's another volunteer job for Nate Kushner, Mike Still, Dan Hopper, and a few others from Penn State who started a sketch group in New York. This is even more of a rush because their first show is on Saturday. Yeah, tell me about it.
My real layout is currently being salvaged. It's mostly there, but I'll probably keep this default Movable Type template up until it's all fixed, seeing as how I have other priorities.
I'm going to leave comments open for a little while and pray that the spambots don't pay me a visit first. Keep it real.

Spam, spam, spam!
Colin's got a hecka good article on spam over at The Uber Geeks. So far, I haven't gotten any comment spam here, but this incarnation of the site is still young. I would use TypeKey to keep the spammers away, but it's a huge piece of crap, so that's out. My solution is to sit and wait. I'm sure it'll happen eventually, but I'll worry about it when they start hitting my site.
As for the more traditional form of spam, and I don't mean the canned meat, I don't really get any of that either. My Yahoo! address gets a few every day, but their filter is pretty good and it catches all of it. I still haven't gotten a single e-mail sent to the spam folder on my Gmail account. I got two in my work account just after I started here in September of last year, but that must have been a fluke, because I haven't gotten any since then.
I've been lucky so far. Thank God I'm not this guy.

This'll shut you up
It will shut a great many of you up to hear that I am working on a design for this site. It's going to be quite possibly my greatest work yet. Also, I promise to update on a slightly more regular basis. Oh, and maybe I'll get comments working.
Give me a few days...

Bad stuff in Scranton?
This is interesting.
Lackawanna County will make a rush mass mailing to more than 10,000 registered voters to notify them of polling place changes in Tuesday's general election. The mailing is part of a compromise reached Wednesday evening in U.S. District Court after the Lackawanna County Democratic Committee sued the county Board of Elections in an attempt to block the relocation of 15 heavily Democratic precincts to new polling places.
Chief Judge Thomas I. Vanaskie helped broker the deal, which also requires the Voter Registration Office to run a quarter-page advertisement outlining the poll changes in the Times-Tribune newspapers Sunday and Monday.
"Under the circumstances, it's the best we could hope for," said county Democratic chairman Jerry Notarianni.
The lawsuit, filed Wednesday morning by Mr. Notarianni and Dunmore residents Tim and Janet Brier, accused the Republican-controlled election board of intentionally targeting predominantly Democratic districts when deciding which polling locations would change. Democrats make up more than 76 percent of the registered voters in the 15 precincts, the suit said.

Top of the charts
I was inspired by a story I read on Yahoo! News about pro-war country songs, so I decided to write something.
Maybe it's worthy of The (blank) Effect...
I should warn you that if you're easily offended or too stupid to recognize satire when you see it, you should probably just go away now.
Top pro-war country music songs for June 10:
1. Where were you? part 2 (A tribute to Nick, a Jew)
2. Bombs over Baghdad
3. Marry me Lyndie (I'll be here when you get out of the brig)
4. Letter to home (We need more coloreds for cannon fodder)
5. Cameljockeys beware (Toby's back)
6. Iran better run (Prepare to be liberated)
7. The Jews are all right (Watch out, Arafat)
8. Boots for the troops (To shove up Bin Laden's ass)
9. The 'lectric raghead (Abu Ghraib boogie)
10. Love in a Humvee (Watch out for A-rabs)
11. Back home (We used to dream about blowin' up foreigners)
12. If you're not with us, you're against us
13. Al Franken is a liberal Jew
14. Boots for the troops part 2. (Liberals' asses got another thing comin')
15. I don't get mad, I get even (I think that guy at 7-11 is a raghead)
16. Support the president (Unless he's a Demmycrat)
17. The Dixie Chicks are sluts (And probably with the terr'ists)
18. Roll out the tanks! (Taxes are too high because of Liberals)
19. Hanoi John (Somebody's gotta stop him)
20. War, what is it good for? (Selling songs to rednecks)
